Post Vacation “Food for Thought”

We are fresh back from a beach vacation (1st Family Trip) feeling relaxed and invigorated. Of course going to the beach usually brings one thing to mind … bathing suits. Every spring/summer you can find oodles of commercials of magazine ads telling you how to get a great beach body. Every time I’m at the beach I wonder to myself, “where are all those people who model for the commercial ads” … the people I see at the beach don’t usually look supermodels (unless they are European :-) ). Hubby brought to my attention that alot of people have more on their mind than bathing suits. As we perused the area around our vacation spot we also took note of all the vacation meal spots. It seems that the beach is synonymous with beach food/ junk food. We didn’t have to look far for pizza, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, things slathered in cheese, beer, etc. etc. etc. All of this made me ponder — WHY is vacation food junk food? WHY is holiday food junk food? WHY is quick food junk food? Airport food, festival/carnival food, graduation party food … junk, junk, junk. No body every says, “we’re going on vacation, let’s get Mahi Mahi and fresh pico” OR ” yumm, the beach let’s have a fruit cup for lunch”. How did we manage to go from cave man days, foraging the land for natural food to cheese fries loaded with chili???
